Problem summary
When -Xmx2040m is specified in zlinux 64, the verbose gc log shows that the compressed reference shift value takes 0x1. This means that a contiguous space couldn't be allocated that contributes to performance degradation.
Problem conclusion
Appropriate linker options have been added to specify base address for java launcher, so that even if one specifies -Xmx2040m in zlinux 64, compressed reference shift continues to be 0x0 as much possible to regain performance. . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 8 SR2 FP10 (8.0.2.10) . Contact your IBM Product's Service Team for these Service Refreshes and Fix Packs. For those running stand-alone, information about the available Service Refreshes and Fix Packs can be found at: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/
