  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Error Message: If there is an existing subdirectory named 'core'
in the current working directory of the JVM, the JVM may rename
that directory when a system dump is produced. The problem only
occurs on Linux, and only occurs if the default OS system dump
name is 'core' (ie. /proc/sys/kernel/core_uses_pid is set to 0).
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .
The problem may also occur with other non-regular files, for
    example symbolic links.

Local fix

  • Set /proc/sys/kernel/core_uses_pid to 1. The system dump
produced by the Linux OS will then have the process ID (PID)
appended to the core filename, avoiding the clash with the
    existing directory name.

Problem summary

  • The problem is caused when the file name of the expected OS
system dump clashes with an existing directory name.

Problem conclusion

  • The JVM has been updated to prevent the directory from being
renamed. The following new error message is produced:
JVMPORT048E Failed to create system dump because a non-regular
file "/<current directory>/core" exists with the same name as
    the expected system dump file.
    .
This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases:
       8 SR2 (8.0.2.0)
