Error description
Error Message: N/A . Stack Trace: N/A . JIT compiled method String.hashCode() returned incorrect hash code for some strings on Power 8 machines. Both AIX and Linux are affected.
Local fix
This issue can be worked around using the -Xjit:disableSIMDStringHashCode option. Note that this will cause some performance degradation.
Problem summary
The problem is caused when JIT's fast-path String.hashCode() behave incorrectly on strings containing characters with values between 0x8000 and 0xFFFF.
Problem conclusion
The JIT has been updated to prevent the incorrect hash code by adding a bit mask to the compiled code. . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 8 SR2 (8.0.2.0) .
