Error description
Error Message: An illegal instruction exception is raised in an AOT-compiled method. . Stack Trace: N/A . This issue affects both z/OS and z/Linux when a Java program is run with an agent that performs bytecode instrumentation and class sharing is enabled (with the -Xshareclasses option).
Local fix
This problem can be avoided by disabling class sharing, by removing the JVMTI agent, or by setting the JVM option -Xaot:exclude={full method name},loadExclude={full method name} for the method that is causing the issue. Disabling class sharing may cause some performance degradation.
Problem summary
The problem is caused by missing revocations in the AOT-compiled method for cases when method execution needs to revert back to interpretation.
Problem conclusion
This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 7 R1 SR1 (7.1.1.0) 7 SR7 (7.0.7.0) 6 R1 SR8 (6.1.8.0) 6 SR16 (6.0.16.0) . The JIT compiler has been updated to handle such cases properly.
