Error description
In environments having many agents, the TakeAction destination list is sometimes empty. RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS: 1-Connect to a system having a large number of agents of a particular type 2-Open the Take Action dialog on one of them 3-Select an action from the list 4-Observe that sometimes the Destination list is populated and sometimes it is not. The problem is more frequent the larger the number of agents and the slower the connection to the TEPS.
Local fix
The Destination list is requested and processed on a background thread when the Take Action dialog (or view) is opened. In environments having a large number of agents, it may take some time to process all the entries but the dialog does not appear busy. If an action is selected before the Destination list retrieval is complete, the selection list will be empty. The workaround is to wait for the list to populate but there is no visual indication to show how long is 'long enough' so the user has to guess.
Problem summary
The target system list in the Take Action dialog box may not display all of the managed systems. For large IBM Tivoli Monitoring environments with potentially thousands of managed systems of the same type, the Take Action dialog box when opened from a navigator item in the physical view or from a row in the table view may not display all of the target systems.
Problem conclusion
The behavior has been changed so when the Take Action dialog box is opened, the list of actions is disabled until the list of managed systems is complete. Also when an action is selected now, the cursor will go into a wait state until the list of available target managed systems appears is complete. The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance packages: | fix pack | 6.2.2-TIV-ITM-FP0009 | fix pack | 6.2.3-TIV-ITM-FP0002
Temporary fix
When launching the Take Action dialog box in a large environment, wait five seconds before selecting an action from the list. This will ensure the request to retrieve the available managed systems has completed.
