APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • Upgrading IBM Spectrum Protect Plus fails to automatically
upgrade the reverse proxy. This issue happens silently since the
upgraded reverse proxy RPM is a lower version than the currently
installed RPM, implicitly skipping the reverse proxy upgrade.

Problem conclusion

  • In IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.11 or later, the reverse proxy
RPM was versioned independently of the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus
    release version (i.e., used 1.0 instead of 10.1.11, 10.1.12,
etc.). The build number of the reverse proxy RPM for each
release was reset, which may have caused the RPM version to be
less than the version currently installed on a customer's
appliance. For example, if three builds were made for one
release, the RPM version would be 1.0-3, but if one one build
was made for the next release, the version would be 1.0-1, which
is less than the previous version. This resulted in the reverse
proxy RPM not being upgraded. This bug has been resolved in IBM
Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.16.2 and 10.1.17, where the reverse
proxy RPM is now versioned based on the IBM Spectrum Protect
Plus release version (i.e., 10.1.16 or 10.1.17). This ensures
that the reverse proxy RPM will always be installed when
upgrading from one release to the next.
