Error description

  • The copy to cloud feature was made available in IBM Spectrum
Protect Plus starting with version 10.1.3.
When there are multiple copy to cloud failures, left over
orphaned metadata can fill up the cloud cache directory
    /opt/vsnap-data.
Once that directory reaches 100% occupancy, it prevents new
    offloads from starting.

IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Versions Affected:
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.3 and later

Additional Keywords: SPP, SPPlus, TS015182631, Storage Protect
    Plus, offload, cloud

Local fix

  • 1. Ensure there is no active copy to cloud session with the
    vSnap command :
         vsnap cloud session show
    2. Manually delete any files with the keyword "tmp" in the file
    name in /opt/vsnap-data and subdirectories.

Problem conclusion

  • In IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.3 and later, failed cloud
offloads could leave behind temporary blockmap data, causing the
/tmp directory of a vSnap to fill up (causing disk exhaustion).
This issue has been corrected in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus
    10.1.16.2 and 10.1.17.
