APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The customer is using Storage Insights to monitor a SpecV device
    with a 5-minute Performance Monitoring (PM) interval. In
    approximately every 40 minutes, there is an occurrence where
    Storage Insights "misses" a Performance Monitor data point for
    that particular device. This results in temporary values of
    "Device is not providing valid performance data" for Data
    Collection and Performance Monitoring Status in the Block
    Storage Systems table. However, this issue is momentary as the
    next Storage Insights performance monitoring collection from the
    device is successful.
    
    This problem has the potential to impact all SpecV devices
    being monitored by a data collector. However, devices monitored
    by Call Home with Cloud services remain unaffected.
    
    To verify the problem, navigate to the Resource tab, right-click
    on the selected device, and choose "View performance." Compare
    the Performance Monitoring (PM) interval by choosing 'Toggle
    chart/table' located in the upper right corner.
    
    During the reproduction of the issue, observed the missing
    samples in a scenario where the storage device had a 2-minute
    interval, and Storage Insights was configured with a 5-minute
    interval.
    

Local fix

  • To address the issue, modify the performance stats interval on
    the device to either 5 minutes or 1 minute using the startstats
    command. The preferred and default interval for Storage Insights
    is 5 minutes. Utilize the following command to set the interval
    on the device.
    
    startstats -interval 5
