APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • From ACE 11.0.0.22, ACE 12.0.10.0 and above, the mqsiprofile
script sets the environment variables OPENSSL_MODULES and
OPENSSL_ENGINES. These may interfere with 3rd party applications
run in the same shell session that are unrelated to ACE.

Local fix

  • Unset the environment variables before running non-ACE commands
and restore them before running any ACE commands.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM App Connect Enterprise 12.0.10.0 or above that
use 3rd party applications that depend on OpenSSL from a command
environment where mqsiprofile has been run.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
From v12.0.10.0 and above, the mqsiprofile script sets the
environment variables OPENSSL_MODULES and OPENSSL_ENGINES. These
may interfere with 3rd party applications run in the same shell
session that are unrelated to ACE.

Problem conclusion

  • The mqsiprofile script no longer sets these environment
variables, instead ACE executables that need OpenSSL calculate
and set them internally. The product will ignore any value the
customer has set for these environment variables.
