IT44365: THE OPERATING SYSTEM UPGRADE FOR A VIRTUAL VSNAP SERVER / VADP PROXY IS FAILING

APAR status

Error description

• After migration of the LINUX operating system from CentOS v7 to
  RHEL8, the operating system for a virtual IBM Spectrum Protect
  Plus vSnap server/vADP proxy can not be further upgraded to
  higher levels of RHEL8.
  Using the ISO file (spp_with_os.iso), provided for
  IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server 10.1.13 or higher, running the
  procedure for 'Updating a vSnap server', the following messages
  show up:
  
  cannot install both cairo-1.15.12-6.el8.x86_64 and
  cairo-1.15.12-3.el8.x86_64
  ...
  cannot install both cryptsetup-libs-2.3.7-2.el8.x86_64 and
  cryptsetup-libs-2.3.3-4.el8.x86_64
  ...
  
  When upgrading the vSnap server to the 10.1.14 release, the
  install process will display messages for four additional
  operating system packages using the ISO file for the
  corresponding IBM Spectrum Protect Plus server:
  
  cannot install both iproute-5.18.0-1.el8.x86_64 and
  iproute-5.15.0-4.el8.x86_64
  ...
  cannot install both libpwquality-1.4.4-5.el8.x86_64 and
  libpwquality-1.4.4-3.el8.x86_64

Problem conclusion

• Prior to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.15.1, the IBM Spectrum
  Protect Plus ISO image used for upgrading a vSnap did not
  contain the RPMs required to perform the upgrade of the vSnap.
  Therefore, when a user attempted to upgrade a vSnap using this
  ISO image, the upgrade would fail. Since IBM Spectrum Protect
  Plus 10.1.15.1, this ISO image contains all of the RPMs
  necessary to upgrade a vSnap successfully.
