Error description

  • The top IBM Spectrum Protect Plus related items that are
    consuming space are:
       Rollback backup directories

       VADP core dumps

Running ls -l /opt/IBM/SPP/ can list those files.
By default, too many core dump versions are kept.

IBM Storage Protect Plus Versions Affected:
IBM Storage Protect Plus 10.1.15.0 and earlier

Additional Keywords: SPP, SPPlus, TS012852495, VSNAP, Hyper-V,
    /opt, VADP, Storage Protect Plus

Local fix

  • Delete core dump to gain space again.

Problem conclusion

  • Prior to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.15.1 and 10.1.16,
artifacts may have been left behind on the file system of a VADP
appliance when performing an update or when a core dump
occurred. The VADP process did not automatically clean up the
update artifacts, while the core dumps were automatically
cleaned up, but the number of retained core dumps was a fixed
number (non-configurable). IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.15.1
and 10.1.16 stop the generation of these update artifacts and
allow users to configure the number of retained core dumps using
the Proxy Options screen in the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus User
Interface (UI). This reduces the likelihood that the VADP file
system will fill up during both normal operation and when errors
    occur on the VADP appliance.
