Error description

  • The IBM Spectrum Protect Plus appliance can progressively use up
the host memory up to a point a reboot is needed to free up the
    memory.
The rate the memory usage is increasing depends on the applied
workload, the more jobs are used, the quicker the memory usage
    will raise.
The cause is the session manager that does not close internal
    sessions once tasks are completed.
Analysis of a dump of the virgo service when the memory is in
high usage is needed to confirm the problem addressed in this
    APAR.

Problem conclusion

  • In previous versions of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, user sessions
could be created internally and never released, causing a memory
leak, which, in turn, caused IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to crash
after all available memory was exhausted. In IBM Spectrum
Protect Plus 10.1.15.2 and 10.1.16, these bugs where user
sessions were not released have been fixed, thus resolving this
    session-based memory leak.
