Error description
The IBM Spectrum Protect Plus documentation does not clearly indicate the requirements and precise setup steps to be able to restore a Microsoft Exchange individual mailbox item on the target Windows server in the manual page ?Restoring individual mailbox items by using a granular restore operation?. A missing requirement is that the individual mail item restore process needs to happen on a Windows host with Outlook installed. This means that restore must happen on a remote Windows host as Outlook cannot be installed on an Exchange server. This is a Microsoft limitation. The setup steps are available in the "C:\program files\ibm\ IBM Spectrum Protect\tools\Exchange\imr\readme.htm" file on the Microsoft Exchange server where the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Exchange agent is installed. Problem conclusion
In IBM Documentation, the "Restoring individual mailbox items by using a granular restore operation" topic has missing requirement for individual mailbox item restore process, which has to be performed on a Windows host system that has Outlook installed. In the "Before you begin" section of the topic we have added the following action list items: - You must perform individual mailbox items restore operation from a remote server that has Microsoft 32-bit Outlook installed. - You must install and configure the granular restore remote package to a remote server that has Microsoft Outlook installed.
