Error description

  • IBM Spectrum Protect Plus protection of a Microsoft SQL log can
    stop with the error seen in the job log:
    ERROR .. CTGGE1084,[<SQLServerAddress>]
                       SQL Server failed to backup logs for database
                       [<DBName>] on instance [<SQLInstanceName>] in
                       availability group [<SQLAAGName>].
                       The Event ID associated with the failure is
                       [512].
                       Check the event viewer on the server for
                       additional details.
     WARN .. CTGGA3277,[<SQLServerAddress>] Log backup status was
                       reported as partial: null
    ERROR .. CTGGA3276,Log backup failed for database
                       <SQLServerAddress>-><SQLInstanceName>
                       -><DBName>:
                       Exception of type 'SqlLogBackup.
                       IdentifiableSqlExecutionFailureException'
                       was thrown.
    
    This happens when the backup process cannot determine the
    expected preferred Microsoft SQL node set for backups in the
    Microsoft SQL Management Studio.
    
    IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Versions Affected:
    IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.2 and later

Local fix

  • Ensure the desired preferred node for backups is set in the
    Microsoft SQL configuration.

Problem conclusion

  • This problem has been fixed so that when SQL preferred alwayons
    database query fails during SQL log backup, a clear message is
    reported.
