Error description

  • On an ADIC Scalar 10 library which is emulated by a Fujitsu VTL,
    a private volume mount request is requesting a scratch volume on
    the VTL and the volume positioning gets ANR8944E A hardware or
    media error occurred on drive >drive< (\\.\Tapexxxx) with volume
    xxxx, OP=LOCATE, Error Number=1104, CC=0, rc = 2865, KEY= 08,
    ASC=00, ASCQ=05

    ASC      ASCQ
    0x00	0x05	End of data

    A server actlog shows for example for a Space Reclamation:
    ANR1040I Space reclamation started for volume xxxx, storage pool
    >stgpool<
    ANR1044I Removable volume xxxx is required for space reclamation

    ANR8337I LTO volume xxxx mounted in drive >drive< (\\.\Tapexxxx)

    ANR8944E A hardware or media error occurred on drive >drive<
    (\\.\Tapebbbbb) with volume xxxx, OP=LOCATE, Error Number=1104,
    CC=0, rc = 2865, KEY= 08, ASC=00, ASCQ=05

    A server trace with traceflag MMS and a devicedriver trace
    LIBRARYDD shows:
    [mmsscsi.c][12200][PreparePrivateVolume]:Preparing private
    volume xxxx in library >libraryname<.
    [mmsscsi.c][21292][MountPrivateVolume]:emptyVolFlag = 0
    emptyFlag = 0  <=====
    [mmsscsi.c][12866][MoveVolume]:scratch_mount_req 1. <=====
    [mmsscsi.c][13708][ExecuteAutoOp]:Issuing ioctl MOVE_MEDIUM_NEW
    (8401C084) on library device lbxx.x.x.x.  <=====
    [dd_lib.c][4131][ds_lb_ioctl]: ds_lb_ioctl: processing
    ADSM_LBIOC_MOVE_MEDIUM_NEW
    [dd_lib.c][4177][ds_lb_ioctl]: ds_lb_ioctl: scratch_mount_req =
    1 product_id = Scalar 10K

    The trace shows that the server required a non-scratch mount
    because this libP->emptyVolFlag was False.

    This flag became True before the server issued the move I/O.
    Due to this flag was True, the server used MOVE_MEDIUM_NEW to do
    the I/O and the VTL does not upload the data to the VTL during
    the mount.

    IBM Spectrum Protect versions Affected:

    IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1.13.000 and above on all
    supported platforms for ADIC Scalar 10 libraries emulated by a
    Fujitsu VTL

    Additional Keywords: TS012171485 library drive mount hardware
    error VTL locate device driver
