IT43187: VMWARE BACKUPS FAIL WITH ANS9278E AND RC=7200 WHEN USING TAG BASED SCHEDULING

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Sometimes, tag based schedule fails to backup virtual machines
  due to out of memory error.
  
  
  The output of  dsmc Show Vm all command will fail with the
  following messages:
  Show All virtual machines on VMware Server.

  ANS2635E The vCloud Suite plug-in runtime library encountered an
  internal error.
  ANS2308E The VMware vCloud Suite API reported the following
  error message: 'getListOfVMsWithIBMCategoryAndTag():
  java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0, Size: 0'.
  ANS9278E Failure processing vmList option. RC=7200
  
  Datamover dsmerror log will shows the below messages:
  <Date_stamp> <time_stamp> ANS2635E The vCloud Suite plug-in
  runtime library encountered an internal error.
  <Date_stamp> <time_stamp> ANS2308E The VMware vCloud Suite API
  reported the following error message:
  'getListOfVMsWithIBMCategoryAndTag():
  java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0, Size: 0'.
  <Date_stamp> <time_stamp> ANS9377E No virtual machine is
  specified on the Backup VM command or the virtual machine domain
  list could not be processed.
  
  IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
  IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - Data Protection
  for VMware 8.1.x on all Windows and Linux platforms.

Local fix

• If possible, disable tagging schedules and use classic schedules
  instead.
  To achieve this, set following option in the datamover dsm.opt
  file:
  vmtagdatamover no

Problem conclusion

• The issue has been fixed, so IndexOutOfBounds java exception
  should not occurr anymore.
