IT42872: VSNAP DOCUMENTATION FOR CONFIGURING AN ACTIVE DIRECTORY NEEDS TO BE UPDATED

Error description

• The vSnap documentation for configuring an Active Directory (AD)
  needs to be updated. As the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus user guide
  for vSnap server states:
  ... When the primary or secondary host is added to a domain, any
  Microsoft SQL Server log backup jobs that are associated with
  that host will use domain authentication to mount the log backup
  volume. In this way, you can avoid the requirement to use a
  local staging area on the application server when for log backup
  operations. ...

  Newer releases of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus provide enhancement
  which no longer require the staging area, and they can backup
  transaction logs directly to the SMB share mounted from vSnap.
  Therefore, there is no benefit of joining the vSnap to AD.

Problem conclusion

• The following User Guide sections have been updated to reflect
  that a staging area is no longer required for SQL log backups
  starting with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus version 10.1.6.
  Accordingly, there is no need or benefit to joining a vSnap
  server to Active Directory in newer versions.
