APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Storage Insights does not display the cause for a DS8K device to
    not get added to Storage Insights; it simply displays task
    expired.  The data collector logs capture the cause of the
    failure, but this messaging is not relayed back to Storage
    Insights, and thus the Storage Insights user has no obvious
    indication of where to look or how to fix the problem.
    
    The data collector logs (specifically the niClient_x.log file,
    located in the <device_uuid>\test_connection directory
    structure) shows the following response from the DS8K HMC, which
    shows the cause for the failure:

    Additional info: Client # <user_id> is using a new account whose
    password must be changed prior to use, so the following command

    Given that the data collector receives this message from the
    DS8K HMC, the failure cause can and should be shown in the
    Storage Insights GUI, allowing the Storage Insights user to take
    the required actions to allow their system(s) to be monitored by
    Storage Insights without having to engage support.

Local fix

  • Change initial password for the DS8K HMC user id, and proceed
    with adding the device to Storage Insights again.
