IT41638: HOST CONNECTION STATUS IS PROPAGATED TO STORAGE DEVICE LEVEL, SETTING OVERALL STATUS CONDITION OF DEVICE.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The host connection status, from internal resources, is
  propagated up to the overall storage device condition, which is
  fine when there is no error.
  
  Currently, if the host connection status is in an error
  condition it results in the storage device labeled as an error
  condition.
  
  For example, a host connection in an offline status rolls up as
  an error condition, resulting in the storage device being shown
  as error condition.
  
  However, an offline status of the host connection may be
  intentional or the expected state, and for that customer they do
  not expect the storage device to be shown as error condition.
  This APAR will investigate the status condition mentioned above
  and how best to address the expected state of the host
  connections and how status is propagated to the device level.
