Error description

  • In IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, when a restore job is configured
to change the IP address of the Virtual Machine (VM) that is
being restored, the job can complete partially. The VM restore
completes fine, but the IP address is not changed.

The Joblog of the restore operation will show:

DETAIL,<time>,2,CTGGA0953,Waiting for guest to become available
    ERROR,<time>,2,CTGGA0957,Failed to update all NICs
(restored_vm_name). Last Error = (Configuration failed with
    error code 7).

The IP reconfiguration agent checks the restored VM for the
    network configuration in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.

Each network adapter is expected to have a configuration file
with the naming ifcfg-<device_name>, like ifcfg-ens160.

When the configuration file has a customized name, the
reconfiguration of the IP address fails.

This issue only happens when restoring Linux VMs

IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Versions Affected:
    IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.x

    Additional Keywords: SPP, SPPlus, TS007745171

Local fix

  • Change the IP address manually after the restore of the VM
    completes.
