Error description
Using IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, restoring a single file for a VMware guest can fails with: CTGGA1313 Failed to mount disks to VM xxx Error = (HypervisorVMReconfException). CTGGA0939 Failed to reconfigure VM xxx Exception (com.catalogic.ecx.serviceprovider.common.hypervisor.exception .HypervisorVMReconfException) reports: (Maximum number of SCSI controllers reached This happens when there are insufficient free SCSI slots on the restore target VMware guest to allow the mount of all source guest disks. VMware guests support up to 4 virtual SCSI controllers of types BusLogic Parallel, LSI Logic Parallel, LSI Logic SAS or VMware Paravirtual SCSI. VMware virtual SCSI controllers support up to 15 disks. Starting with vSphere 6.7, the Paravirtual SCSI controller allows to attach 64 disks. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus incorrectly limits the possible amount of disks to mount to the target guest by not using a Paravirtual SCSI controller when an extra controller is needed to accommodate the source guest disks. Example : The restore target guest is using 40 disks spread on 3 LSI Logic Parallel controllers. The file restore process needs to mount 40 disks to the target guest from the selected restore point. In that scenario, the restore process will add a 4th LSI Logic Parallel controller to the restore target guest which allows to mount 15 extra disks. This enables only 15 free slots from the new controller + 5 the 5 remaining free slots on the other controllers. As the restore point is a backup image of a 40 disk guest, the process will fail as it lacks 20 free slots. The above restore example would be successful if IBM Spectrum Protect Plus would have used a Paravirtual SCSI controller that allows 45 free slots starting from vSphere version 6.7. Local fix
Run a full VM restore and copy the required files to the target guest
