IT39727: AFTER THE UPGRADE TO VERSION 10.1.9, REPLICATION OR CLOUD COPY JOBS RUN SLOWER THAN THE CONFIGURED SITE BANDWIDTH THROTTLE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After the upgrade IBM Spectrum Protect Plus to version 10.1.9,
  when bandwidth throttle is enabled for a site, the replication
  or cloud copy jobs associated with that site will transfer data
  at a rate that is much slower than expected. The problem occurs
  specifically when multiple replication or cloud jobs run
  concurrently.
  
  The overall transfer throughput for a given job is reported at
  the end of the job log.
  
  
  For example:
  CTGGA0398   Total data replicated for job 7.31 GB; Throughput:
  2.28 MB/Sec; Duration  0H:54M:49S
  
  Due to a miscalculation, the throttle rate is unnecessarily
  divided by the number of active jobs rather than the number of
  active
  vSnaps.
  
  The result is that all active vSnap servers in the site get
  throttled to a low value.

Local fix

• Temporarily disable the network throttle in the site settings.
  If this is not possible because some amount of throttling is
  desired, then schedule SLAs to avoid overlapping replication or
  cloud copy jobs within the same site.

Problem conclusion

• IBM Spectrum Protect Plus has been fixed.   The throttle rate
  calculations will be based on the number of vSnap servers in a
  site that are actively transferring data regardless of active
  job count.
