Error description

  • The "protect stgpool" operation can mount a tape volume which is
    already full for backup.

This full volume selection can cause frequent mounts and
    dismounts of this tape volume

to a tape drive without writing any data.

This frequent mounts/dismounts result in a reduced life of
    this tape.

Here a typical sequence as seen in the ACTLOG:

Problem conclusion

  • This problem was fixed.
Affected platforms for reported release: AIX, Linux, and
    Windows.
Platforms fixed: AIX, Linux, and Windows.

ANR8341I End-of-volume reached for XYZ (device type) volume
    ABCDE (volume label)

    Explanation
The server has detected an end-of-volume condition for the given
    volume.

    System Action
The volume is marked full if the transaction is committed.
If the transaction is stopped before it is committed, the volume
remains in a filling state. If more data must be stored, the
    server
must use another volume to complete the storage.

    User Response
Insert tape cartridges with available storage to the tape
    library.
