IT38714: VMWARE BACKUP FAILURE: ERROR IN CREATE OR RESIZE OF DESTINATION DISK

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A subset of VM's within, IBM Spectrum Protect Plus VMware
  backups, may fail with the following error message in the job
  log:
  
  ERROR,<timestamp> CDT,2,CTGGA2649,Backup of virtual machine
  <VMServer> has failed. Error: stat /sppvadp/sppvadp__vsnap_vpoo
  l1_fs##_#.#.#.#_##/##/<VMServer>.vmdk:no such file or directory
  destination disk for (<VMServer>.vmdk))
  
  The cause for this failure, is that the mounts were incorrectly
  unmounted by the VADP Proxy Server.
  The vadp.log, contains entries similar to the following for the
  mountpoint that is still being used by other vmdkbackup
  processes.
  
  ERROR,<timestamp> c.c.v.domain.VmdkBackupProcessManager :
  Unmount /sppvadp/sppvadp__vsnap_vpool1_fs##_#.#.#.#_# and remove
  the mount point.
  

Local fix

• Rerunning partially completed backup jobs
  Complete the following steps to rerun a partially completed
  backup operation:
  
  1) In the navigation panel, click Jobs and Operations and then
  click the Job History tab.
  2) Use the search function and filters to find the last instance
  of the backup job that was partially completed.
  3) Select the job instance and then click Rerun.

Problem conclusion

• The fix for this issue is to skip the unmount of share on the
  VADP proxy if another backup is using it.
