IT38425: "GVM5277E VCENTER CREDENTIALS ARE INCORRECT" MAY BE REPORTED BY THE GUI IF VCENTER ADMIN PASSWORD CONTAINS AN "&" OR "|"

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When performing operations using the IBM Spectrum Protect for
  Virtual Environments GUI
  it may produce the following message:
  
  GVM5277E vCenter credentials are incorrect
  
  The following can be checked to see if this is the problem:
  
  1- The SP for VE is installed and the webserver is running and
  port 9081 is open on the target machine
  2- The user ID is correct and can login using RDP.
  3- The user ID can login to the TSMVMWareUI and can perform all
  of the operations.
  4- The password for the VCenter Admin ID contains special
  characters.
  
  If the VCenter Admin Password contains special characters, then
  any use of "&" should be removed or replaced
  by a different character. The "&" and "|" are not being
  processed correctly.
  
  These special characters ("$", "%", "^") can be used in the
  password and do not generate the error.

  8.1.6 and above

Local fix

• Do not use the special character "&" or "|" for any account that
  IBM Spectrum Protect has to use to interact with the VSphere
  environment

Problem conclusion

• Clients can not have vSphere user password with such symbols as
  "&" using IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - Data
  Protection for VMware vSphere Plug-in. A code change was made
  after which clients can have vSphere user password which
  contains such symbols.
