Error description

  • Output of "vsnap disk show" on IBM Spectrum Protect Plus VSNAP
servers, running on RHEL/CentOS 8.x. with multipath disks, is
    inaccurate.
Below is an example of "vsnap disk show" output where all disks
    are multipath disks.
Only one of the disks is correctly displayed as multipath and
the rest of the disks are displayed as standard disks.

    UUID | TYPE | VENDOR | MODEL

Local fix

  • Force option must be used when creating the vsnap pool.
vsnap pool create --name myTestPool --force --disk_list
    /dev/mapper/mpatha,/dev/mapper/mpathb,/dev/mapper/mpathc

Problem conclusion

  • vSnap constructs disk information by parsing the output of the
system command "lsblk". Starting with RHEL 8.x, the output of
"lsblk" is structured differently and does not match the output
from RHEL 7.x. The vSnap code did not parse the results
correctly resulting in incorrect disk information being
displayed. The problem has been resolved by updating the vSnap
code to correctly handle the new output format of "lsblk" on
    RHEL 8.x.
