Error description

  • In a scenario where SANDISCOVERY option is disabled, the IBM
Spectrum Protect server will potentially mount a tape volume to
an empty drive where it had an open failure. Once the mount is
done, the server fails to open this drive to verify the volume
    label, therefore,
the mount is failed. In a shared library environment, The
    ANR9790W message will be displayed.
A PVR MMS ADDMSG server trace will show a failure mounting the
    volume:

    ie:
    15:46:04.663 [344288][pvr.c][10501][TraceMsg]:ANR9790W Request
to mount volume <volname> for library client <lib_client_name>
    failed.~
    15:46:04.669 [344288][smexec.c][4888][TraceMsg]:ANR0409I Session
    238665 ended for server <servername> (Windows).~
    ....

but despite that, the Server will try to use the drive again.
At the end the operation will fail anyway:

     15:46:04.661 [344289][pvr.c][6793][TraceMsg]:ANR8779E Unable to
    open drive /dev/rmt/drive1, error number= 5.~

     15:46:04.661 [344289][mmsscsi.c][12820][TraceMsg]:ANR8942E
Could not move volume <volname> from slot-element 269 to
    slot-element 1234.~
