IT37814: PERMISSIONS PROBLEM WHEN ACCESSING THE C:\IBM DIRECTORY SUBTREE AFTER INSTALL OR UPGRADE TO CLIENT 8.1.12 OR 7.1.8.11

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The installation (new or upgrade) of the IBM Spectrum Protect
    client versions 8.1.12.0 or 7.1.8.11 triggers some ownership /
    permissions changes of C:\IBM subtree.
    If there are other IBM products installed which need access to
    the same subtree, that may cause permission problems with these
    other IBM products.
    
    In the client installation log file we can see these lines
    showing the changes made:

Local fix

  • Adjust the permissions of the C:\IBM folder as needed after the
    client installation is done.

Problem conclusion

  • After a new installation of a fixed version then the
    permissions for C:\IBM folder will not be reset during a
    following upgrade to a higher version.
    After the first upgrade from an affected version to a fixed
    version the local fix needs to be applied. Then in following
    upgrades to higher versions the permissions for C:\IBM folder
    will not be reset.
