Error description

  • Add a Spectrum Virtualize storage device to Storage Insights
using a user with only the monitor role. If the statistics
collection hasn't already been enabled on the storage device,
the performance monitoring will fail. The reason for the
failure is shown as device unreachable rather than insufficient
permissions or role in the data collection status. The IBM
Documentation covers the actions to take to enable this, but it
should have been easier to identify from the Storage Insights
GUI rather than requiring log review through a support case.

If the user has the Monitor role on the storage system, IBM
Storage Insights can't automatically restart the collection. To
manually start the collection of performance metadata on the
storage system, complete the following steps:
    - Log on to the storage system as a user with the Administrator,
    or SecurityAdmin role.
    - Run the following command: svctask startstats -interval 5
