IT36897: FLASHSYSTEM STORAGE SYSTEM PROBES FAIL WITH NO STATUS INDICATOR IN THE STORAGE INSIGHTS GUI

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Storage Insights fails to populate GUI with capacity and
  performance data after being added. No visible indication of
  probe or performance monitor job status is presented through the
  GUI; all a user can see is the device name an very little other
  information.
  Internal details - Storage Insights is running probes against
  the device, and the device is returning nothing in response to a
  number of the queries issued by Storage Insights. Specifically:
  [ERROR] For IP xx.xx.xx.xx received no output and no error from
  command which considers this an error scenario :
  SVC_CLI_LOCALE=en_US svcinfo lsportfc -delim
  The same error is logged for each of the following API queries
  issued by the probe:
  svcinfo lsportfc
  svcinfo lscontroller
  svcinfo lsfcconsistgrp
  svcinfo lsfcmap
  svcinfo lsrcconsistgrp
  svcinfo lsrcrelationship
  The problem is that despite these failures, the probe is being
  marked as successful, but also not displaying any probe status
  in the Storage Insights GUI.
  
  Internally, Storage Insights tries to generate a proto file
  using the data which is returned - these proto files are what
  contains the data to be persisted into the database; but this
  operation is failing, logging a Null Pointer Exception,
