IT36754: SQL BACKUP COMPLETED PARTIALLY DUE TO FAILED ENABLING LOG BACKUP

Error description

  • Microsoft SQL server backup job completes partially on IBM
    Spectrum
    Protect Plus. The job log shows :CTGGA2081,Failed to
    enable log backup. 
    An exception was logged in command.log of
    SQL log backup, although the
    root case of connection timeout,
    rather than out of connection pool limit.
    Here is a sample
    exception message:
    
    The timeout period elapsed prior to
    obtaining a connection from
    the pool. This may have occurred
    because all pooled connections
    were in use and max pool size
    was reached.
    
    To confirm it is the timeout issue, SQL
    Management Studio
    can be used to connect to the instance to
    see if it fails also.
    If it fails, extend timeout to a higher
    value, and try again
    to confirm it is related to the
    connection timeout.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem was caused by a delay in DNS resolution that
    resulted in a connection timeout. The timeout is increased from
    30 seconds to 120 seconds to accommodate this longer delay and
    the log backups will complete successfully if the SQL connection
    can be established in 120 seconds.
