Error description
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus file restore sometimes fails on Linux VM during the resignature of the file system UUID. The following errors can be seen in the job log: Return code 1: sudo -n tune2fs U xxxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxx /dev/<disk> Output: ['tune2fs 1.43.8 (1-Jan-2018)' '' 'This operation requires a freshly checked filesystem.' '' 'Please run e2fsck -f on the filesystem.' ''] CTGGA4142, Failed to resignature the ext4 file system UUID for the file system /dev/<disk> CTGGA4031, Failed to mount the volume <mountpoint> During file restore, a temporary copy of the backup disk is attached to the target VM and mounted under a temporary mount point in order to restore files from it. The UUID of the temporary filesystem is resignatured by giving it a new random value to avoid conflicts with the source filesystem. The resignaturing can fail for certain file systems on certain versions of Linux. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Versions Affected: 10.1.x Initial Impact: Low Keywords: TS005216203 File Restore resignature mount
Local fix
Rerun the failed restore with an option to skip resignaturing the filesystem UUID. Create the file /etc/guestapps.conf on the target VM or edit if it already exists. Adding the following two lines to it. Use command "chmod 644" to make the file readable. [unixagent] skipFsResignature=true Warning: Skipping the resignature has no impact on file restore functionality, but it can result in UUID conflicts if the target VM reboots while the file restore is active. Be careful not to reboot the target VM in the middle of the restore when this option is set. In case an unplanned shutdown/reboot occurs during an active restore, edit the VM settings and detach the temporary backup disk from the VM before powering it on.

Problem conclusion
Made changes to set the last time checked for ext4 file system before assigning uuid if required. After applying the fix Linux file restore will complete successfully without asking for a file system check.
