Error description
The backup of Hyper-V guests using IBM Spectrum Protect Plus can fail during initialization of the target Hypervisor Clustered Volume. The joblog shows the following message when this issue is seen: ERROR,<id>,<time>,2,CTGGA2364,An exception occurred during target volume mapping. Failed to create hypervisor clustered volume. Reason: Failed to add disk to cluster. To confirm this APAR applies, verify the following: 1. The Hyper-V guests being backed up reside on a Hyper-V cluster. Stand-alone Hyper-V hosts are not impacted. 2. The vSnap is using the non-default kernel version 3.10. When the vSnap is using the default kernel that is shipped with the vSnap, the issue does not apply. 3. Verify the vSnap system log. The following message should be visible in /var/log/messages around the time of the failure: <date> <host> kernel: filp_open(/var/target/pr/aptpl_aaaaaa-bbbb-cccc-dddd-eeeeeeeeee) for APTPL metadata failed If the directory /var/target/pr does not exist, problems are seen with persistent reservation when mapping luns to clusters, and backup fails. This APAR only applies when all 3 conditions are true. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Versions Affected: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.x Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: SPP, SPPlus, TS004604615
Local fix
1. Verify kernel 3.10.xxx is in use with the following command: uname -r 2. Verify if the following directory exists on the vSnap: ls -ltR /var/target/pr 3. If the directory does not exist and kernel 3.10.xxx is in use, create the directory using the following command: sudo mkdir -p /var/target/pr 4. Run the backup again. There is no restart required of any service before running the backups again.
