Error description

  • Problem Description:
    
    A LAN-FREE backup requires the library client to check and
    verify LAN-FREE path resources which are available on the
    library manager.
    The library client needs to access the storage pool and gets
    information from the storage pool cache about the resources.
    This issue can be seen in an environment that has large number
    of  LAN-FREE agents and number of library clients.
    
    This problem is caused because the server does not use a mutex
    to serialize the access of the storage pool for each library
    client, which
    leads to an increasing number of sessions seen on the library
    manager when a path resource is not available.
    Without the mutex/lock, all library clients can access the path
    cache based on the same storage pool to do the same checking.
    This makes this cache ineffective and causes a performance issue
    due to the quantity of sessions that can be quickly opened and
    closed to check the cache for path resources.
    
    Symptom:
    
    The following an huge excessive number of ANR0408I and ANR0409I
    messages entries up to few thousands  would be logged in the
    activity log.
    The activity log messages look like:
    
    ANR0408I Session <sessionid> started for server <SERVER>
    (<PLATFORM>) (<COMMTYPE>) for library sharing. (SESSION:
    <sessionid>)
    ANR0409I Session <sessionid> ended for server <SERVER>
    (<PLATFORM>). (SESSION: <sessionid>)
    are reported in the activity log.
    
    
    Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
    
    Server versions 7.1.x and 8.1.x on all supported platforms

Local fix

  • Local Fix:
    
    This situation can leads that we can reach defined the maximum
    MAXSESSION parameter which should be increased.
    issue setopt maxsessions - server side option which specifies
    total number of sessions, client and server, that can run at any
    one time
    or we have to recycle the library manager to clear the sessions,
