IT35807: SLOW PERFORMANCE WHEN TRYING TO REVIEW THE RESTORE POINTS FOR IBM SPECTRUM PROTECT PLUS CATALOG BACKUPS

APAR status

Error description

  • When trying to load and review the restore points for the
    catalog backup via the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus User Interface
    (UI), it can take an excessively long time to load the page with
    a list of restore points through the navigation pane of "Manage
    Protection" > "IBM Spectrum Protect Plus" > "Restore" > "vSnap
    server name".
    
    Sometimes it may even end up with an error message that pops up
    after a long time of loading the page.
    The exact error message may vary each time. Here are two
    examples:
    
    Example 1:
    "A network error or degradation has occurred. Contact your
    network administrator to confirm the validity of your network.
    For error details, download logs via the Users Account icon."
    
    Example 2:
    "Server was unable to process request."
    
    The root cause for this slow performance is that when loading
    the page with restore points it spends most of the time finding
    the provider IDs associated between a storage and cloud provider
    which may not be necessary for all cases.

Problem conclusion

  • The catalog restore request was optimized to reduce the
    processing time of the request. This reduces the execution time
    of the call to the point where the timeout should no longer be
    reached.
