APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Restoring an Oracle DB to an Oracle Real Application Cluster
(RAC) can fail when both of these conditions are true:

    - The
CLUSTER_INTERCONNECTS parameter is defined in the backed up
    database's PFILE or SPFILE.
    - Each node in the RAC has a
    different CLUSTER_INTERCONNECTS value.

    When the restore issue
occurs, this message is written to the job log:

     ORA-27528:
Transport: RDS required by Engineered System is not available

These messages are written to the database alert log on the
    Oracle server:

Error: IP addresses provided by Cluster
Interconnects do not support RDS transport required for an
    Engineered system.
Terminating the instance due to ORA error
    27528

Local fix

  • 1. Copy the source PFILE parameters into a plain text file,
    such as /home/oracle/template.ora
    2. Edit the file created in
step 1 and remove the CLUSTER_INTERCONNECTS parameter.
    3. Copy
the edited file to the nodes where the restore is being
    performed.
    4. In the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus UI restore
wizard, select option "Init Params -> Template", then specify
the full path to template.ora in step 3.
    5. Restore the
    database.
    6. After the restore completes successfully, the
database is started without the CLUSTER_INTERCONNECTS
parameter. Use standard Oracle commands to configure the
restored database with the correct CLUSTER_INTERCONNECTS
    parameter.
