IT34974: BACKUP JOB IS NOT FAILING OR CANCELED EVEN IT REACHES THRESHOLD OF REMAINING FREE SPACE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When using IBM Spectrum Protect Plus and doing a backup,
  we check if the threshold of remaining free space is reached.
  If so, we cancel the job and partially fail the backup.
  
  We are checking for 2 conditions
  (Free percentage < freeSpaceErrorPercentage
  && current Free Space < minimumRequiredFreeSpace).
  The default minimumReguiredFreeSpace is 500 (gb).
  The default freeSpaceErrorPercentage is 20 (%).
  
  If the customer has a storage big enough, then the 20%
  of free space is larger than 500GB.
  So the above statement is still false, the job will be
  completed without cancellation and errors.
  The job only fails when the actual free space is below 500 GB.
  

Local fix

• Set minimumReguiredFreeSpace to 20% of actual vSnap storage
  size.

Problem conclusion

• Previously during backup, the two conditions free space
  percentage and free space as a value were checked. After the fix
  the logic has changed, so only the remaining space as a
  percentage of the total is checked.
  For IBM Spectrum Protect Plus level 10.1.7 ifix2 only the
  remaining space as a percentage of the total is checked.
  For IBM Spectrum Protect Plus level 10.1.8 in the UI it is
  possible to choose what to use for checking the threshold
  setting. Possibilities are  the remaining space as a percentage
  OR free space as a value OR both.
