Error description
Problem description: This issue only occurs for the library client/manager scenario where: The ENABLELANFREE option is set to YES in the IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client and there is/are no drive path(s) definied for the IBM Spectrum Protect storage agent. The problem is caused by a lack of caching of non-existing drive paths for the library client which leads to an increasing number of sessions seen on the library manager. In such a scenario, the library manager generates new sessions to find a drive for the storage agent. If the environment or configuration is not changed, the library client always generates these unnecessary sessions to find non-existing drive paths. If the library client cached these non-existing drive path entries, the library client can search these entries without generating extra sessions. The consequence of this situation is that we can reach the maximum defined MAXSESSION parameter which should be increased. Symptom: Examine the trace log ( using message stack MSGSTACKTRACE ENABLE 3334 8583 454 8217 408 and server trace the trace flags SESSION SS LANFREE LNF .) on the library manager. The following entries would be logged : [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> issued message 608 from:~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x0000000100035f84 IPRA.$StdPutMsg ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x0000000100037e98 outMsgfTrFL ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x00000001006c7a74 smServerOpenOutbound ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x000000010068c35c smLibraryServOpen ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x00000001001eb0cc pvrTestLanFreePath ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x000000010024e0d4 ssLANFreePathtoPool ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x00000001010f8160 IPRA.$FormatBackupCopyGroup ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x00000001010f7d3c FormatMgmtClass ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x00000001010f760c pmQueryActivePolicySet ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x0000000100ac9a3c SmDoPSQry ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x0000000100aadafc SmNodeSession ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x00000001006fcae4 IPRA.$HandleNodeSession ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x00000001006e67f0 smExecuteSession ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x000000010058a068 psSessionThread ~ [smserv.c][3741][PutConsoleMsg]:ANR9999D Thread<727280> 0x0000000100010af0 StartThread ~ ..
