APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The dsmcsvc.exe process is using more and more memory after each
scheduled backup if it is doing systemstate backup.
That problem is not seen when using the client acceptor
scheduler as the dsmcsvc is closed after each backup finish.

Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: All V7.1 and V8.1 client on
        Windows platforms

    Customer/Support Diagnostics:
From Windows task manager, find the dsmcsvc.exe and look at
the column "Memory (private working set)" .
That value may increase by a few MBs between each systemstate
      backup.
That check must only be done when there are no backup ongoing,
because it is normal to see higher value here when backup is
      ongoing.

    Initial Impact: Low

    Additional Keywords: cad , TS002897779  , sched dsmc ,
      managedservice

Local fix

  • . Use the client acceptor scheduler instead of the standard
      client scheduler.
    or
. Restart the scheduler service from time to time to clean
      memory.
