Error description

  • At the end of a successful backup or archive, the
instrumentation report is generated in the dsminstr.log file but
will not display the expected information if communication
problems or any timeout happens during the backup or archive.

The dsminstr.log will display this completion status message:

    "Invalid category end call"

The connection problem may or may not appear clearly externally,
in the backup or archive process output or in client or server
    logs.
If a client trace flag "service" is activated a message ANS1005E
    might be seen.

Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: All V7.1 and V8.1 versions
               on all supported platforms.

      Customer/Support Diagnostics (If Applicable):

    Example in the dsminstr.log:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
PROCESS[6856] TSM Client final instrumentation statistics: Sun
    Dec 1 08:06:11 2019

    Instrumentation class: Client detail
Completion status: Invalid category end call

No instrumented class associated with thread 53884
No instrumented class associated with thread 48516
No instrumented class associated with thread 8828
       ...
A client "service" trace from a Windows client might display:
     ANS1005I TCP/IP read error on socket = xxx, errno = 10054,
reason : 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the
     remote host'

    Initial Impact: Low

Additional Keywords: TS002828195 TSM performance intrument
    report network time out

Local fix

  • . If a timeout appears, increase the IDLETIMEOUT and COMMTIMEOUT
       Spectrum Protect server options values.
. Check and correct any potential communication problem.
