Error description

  • When the VMware environment is large, very active and/or the
vCenter event retention value (default is 30 days) allows for
thousands or million events to be queried by Spectrum Protect
Plus, the GUI might be unresponsive or hanging.
The following messages can be observed in the virgo log :

    [<timestamp>] ERROR connection 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1:5671
    com.rabbitmq.client.impl.ForgivingExceptionHandler

terminated. Cause: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

A restart of Spectrum Protect Plus might help temporarily, but
    the symptom will come back.
This was observed for an environment with 4 vCenters totaling
several thousands of objects (datastores, ESXis, VMs, etc.)

    IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
    IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.5

    | MDVREGR 10.1.5-5737SPLUS |

    Initial Impact: High

Additional Keywords: SPP, SPPLUS, TS003114270, hang, out of
    memory, events

Local fix

  • If possible, try to lower the vCenter event retention value to
reduce the number of stored events.
