IT30970: RESTORING A VIRTUAL MACHINE BACKED UP FROM VCENTER TO ESX/ESXI DIRECTLY MAY FAIL DUE TO MAC ADDRESS CONFIGURATION.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When a virtual machine was backed up from vCenter and the
  restore vm command for the virtual machine is connected to
  ESX/ESXi directly,  the command may fail to configure MAC
  address of the virtual machine.  As result, the NIC
  configuration of the virtual machine may not be restored.
  
  For example, when the restore vm command issued as below:

  restore vm <vm name> -vmname="<new vm name>"
  -datacenter=<DataCenter name> -host<host name> -vmchost=<ESXi
  host> -datastore=<ESXi datastore> -vmcuser=<ESXi user>
  -vmcpw=<password>
  -------
  the command may cause ANS2523E and some other error/warning
  messages as below:
  ----------
  ANS4187W CPU and Memory Resource Allocation configuration
  settings cannot be restored when the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
  data mover node is connected directly to a Virtual Center
  managed ESX/ESXi host. These settings have been skipped.
  ANS2092I The restore process will override the original
  inventory path that was saved with this virtual machine.
  ANS9365E VMware vStorage API error for virtual machine '<vm
  name>'
  TSM function name : CreateVM_USCORETask
  TSM file : ..\..\common\vm\vmvisdk.cpp (6766)
  API return code : 2829
  API error message : Invalid configuration for device '7'.
  ANS2523E The virtual machine named <new vm name> cannot not be
  restored to the same configuration it had when it was backed up.
  IBM Tivoli Storage Manager will reconfigure the virtual machine
  to include only the most essential configuration information and
  retry the restore operation.
