Error description

  • When performing a backup with the IBM Spectrum Protect
    Backup/Archive client, the backup may show an
    exorbitant value for the "Total number of bytes inspected: ".
    For example, A 200GB filesysytem may
    show the inspected bytes as:
         Total number of bytes inspected:          1.39 PB
    Even though the Filesystem size remains consistent, the total
    bytes inspected can vary for each
    backup, possibly showing a value of 250TB instead of the 1.39PB
    in this example.
    Although this problem appears to be similar to APAR IT08013,
    regarding a large value for bytes inspected, this is a different
    issue that occurs due the manner in which the inspected files
    are calculated.
    The only way to identify this specific defect is with a client
    trace using "service, enter, debug", which would show the
    compare for 1 file, but the status processing for a different
    file; for example, notice that the comparison is performed for
    object "a1"

Local fix

  • NONE.  The backup finishes successfully, only the displayed vale
    for Total number of bytes inspected statistics is incorrect.
