Error description
On Windows server where Microsoft Windows Group Policy are in use. If there are Group Policy updates done while the Spectrum Protect server is using tape drives, the tape drives access may be lost with error like: ANR8311E An I/O error occurred while accessing drive DRIVE1 (\\.\Tape0) for WRITE operation, errno = 3, rc = 2863 The operation may be WRITE or any other operation type, it depends what the drive is doing when the Group Policy changes or updates are done. When the Windows Group Policy starts to change or update, it suspends all I/O processes. It makes all I/O operations fail with ESRCH (an error for no such process) or ENOENT (an error for no such file or directory). This problem is not due to Spectrum Protect server. The server should add better message to alert the administrator when that type of event happens. Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: V7.1 and V8.1 on Windows platform Customer/L2 Diagnostics : In Windows Application event logs, this kind of event may appear just before the first ANR8311E error: "Information 04/17/2018 5:16:59 PM SceCli 1704 None Security policy in the Group policy objects has been applied successfully". Initial Impact: Low Additional Keywords: TS002096372 GPO TSM driver
Local fix
Ensure that there is no tape drive in use when enabling or updating Windows Group Policy.

Problem conclusion
This problem was fixed. Affected platforms for reported release: Windows. Platforms fixed: Windows. ANR8311E An input/output (I/O) error occurred during an attempt to access drive DRV1 for operation ABCDE. The error number (errno) is X and the return code (rc) is 1234. Explanation This error can occur if the DEVICE parameter is incorrectly specified, if the drive is powered off, or if the Windows Group Policy blocks access to removable devices. SystemAction System operation continues, but the specified operation fails. UserResponse To resolve the issue, take the following steps: 1. Ensure that the drive is powered on and ready and then retry the operation. 2. If the operation continues to fail, verify whether the DEVICE parameter that is associated with the drive was specified correctly on the DEFINE PATH command. To verify the value of the DEVICE parameter, issue the QUERY PATH command. For example, if the source is BOSTON1, issue the following command: query path boston1 format=detailed 3. If the DEVICE parameter was incorrectly specified, use the UPDATE PATH command to update the parameter value. 4. On a Microsoft Windows operating system, if the errno value is 3, the Windows Group Policy is running on the host system and the IBM Spectrum Protect server is set in the active directory group policy. The Windows Group Policy can block access to all removable devices from the host system and makes all tape devices unavailable to the IBM Spectrum Protect server. To use tape devices on Windows platforms, ensure that the IBM Spectrum Protect server is not in the active directory group policy or disable the Windows Group Policy. For more information, see technote 2009960: https://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg22009960 5. Retry the operation that failed.
