Error description
"Checkin libvolume" can fail for a volume in Allocated status but the error message does not explain why the checkin failed: ANR8832E CHECKIN LIBVOLUME for volumes in search mode in library LIBRARY1 failed. During the "checkin libvolume" process, the server focuses on slots with useCode as FULL. The FULL useCode means the volume in these slots are new to the server. The server searches each of the FULL slots and finds the target volume for the check in operation. When the target slot useCode is ALLOCD (status Allocated under 'show slots'), the volume in this slot is identified as already checked in to the library and the server skips this slot and this target volume is not checked in. For example, "query libvolume" does not show A12345 checked in but "show slots" shows the volume has a status of Allocated: Slot 2901, status Allocated, element number 3927, barcode present, barcode value <A12345>, devT=3592, mediaT=437, elemT=ANY A trace of checkin libvolume (using 'pvr mms' trace flags) for A12345 shows that volume is identified as having useCode=ALLOCD and thus is ignored: 12:29:49.555 [1957785][mmsscsi.c][10495][RefreshSlotInfo]:Slot 2901: addr=3927, useCode=ALLOCD, devT=3592, mediaT=437, elemT=ANY. 12:29:49.555 [1957785][mmsscsi.c][11323][CopyValidBarcode]:Barcode for volume in slot 3927 is 'A12345'. (the trace has no further mentions of this volume and completes with failure) The ANR8832E error message requires a more verbose explanation for the cause of the failure. Initial Impact: Low IBM Spectrum Protect versions affected: Server 7.1.x and 8.1.x on all supported platforms Keywords: TSM TS002015372 checkin slot allocated full library
Local fix
Run "audit library" and retry "checkin libvolume". Or Move the volumes and re-run the "checkin libvolume" command.

Problem conclusion
This problem was fixed. Affected platforms for reported release: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, and Windows. Platforms fixed: AIX, Linux, and Windows. ANR8832E CHECKIN LIBVOLUME for volumes in search mode in library XYZ failed. Explanation The background process for a CHECKIN LIBVOLUME command failed. SystemAction The background process ends, but volumes were not checked into the library. UserResponse To resolve the issue, complete the following steps: 1. Ensure that the affected library and drive devices are powered on and ready for operation. 2. To verify the status of the target slot, issue the SHOW SLOTS command. For example, if the library name is XYZ, issue the following command: show slots xyz 3. Review the command output: - If the status of a slot is FULL or UNKNOWN, reissue the CHECKIN LIBVOLUME command. - If the status of a slot is ALLOCATED, the server will not check in a volume from this slot to the target library because this volume is already checked into this library. 4. If a volume was already checked into the library, and this volume was manually removed from this slot, and a new volume was recently inserted into this slot, take the following actions: - Remove the new volume from the slot and restore the original volume to its original slot. - Check out the original volume. - Verify that the status of this slot is FULL. - Remove the original volume from the slot. - Insert the new volume into this slot and reissue the CHECKIN LIBVOLUME command.
