Error description

  • When using the Spectrum Protect for Databases, Data Protection
    for MS SQL for a partial restore to an alternate location it
    completes successfully, and the tdpsql.log shows in the File
    Input List and Relocate Input List all of the different files
    listed in the batches. However, a listing of files in the
    relocation directory only shows files from the first batch of
    the partial restore. A data protection trace of the restore
    shows the reason is because there is no filegroup set:
    03/16/2019 11:03:26.256 : sqlapi.cpp (5169): sqlWideCmdP : USE
    master RESTORE DATABASE [IBM_20181125] <no FILEGROUP= part> from
    VIRTUAL_DEVICE=N'TDPSQL-00006F20-0000' WITH BLOCKSIZE=512,
    MAXTRANSFERSIZE=1048576, PARTIAL.....
    As a result, only the primary files in the first batch were
    repeatedly selected for restore. Running a partial restore
    specifying filenames like 'tdpsqlc restore dbname full /partial
    /file=<list of files>' ignores the filenames and defaults to the
    filegroup.

Local fix

  • None for restore. Ensure filegroups are set during backup.
