IBM Spectrum Protect Server V8.1 Fix Pack 7 (V8.1.7) Downloads
APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
When using a cloud storage pool connected to Microsoft Azure, the cloud transfer process can appear to hang when the cloud is unreachable. The process is not hung, but is continually attempting to transfer data to Azure and failing. The primary symptom is a transfer process lasting multiple days and continual errors in the FFDC log similar to the following: [ FFDC_GENERAL_SERVER_ERROR ]: (jvm.c:1602) com.tivoli.dsm.cloud.api.ProviderAzure handleException com.microsoft.azure.storage.StorageException An unknown failure occurred : A remote host did not respond within the timeout period. (Connection timed out); HTTP Status Code: 500; error code: SERVICE_INTERNAL_ERROR; cause: java.net.ConnectException: A remote host did not respond within the timeout period. (Connection timed out) While in this condition, it may not be possible to cancel the cloud transfer process. If the transfer process continues to run, it may eventually lead to an exhaustion of database resources and a crash of the IBM Spectrum Protect server. Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: All Spectrum Protect server instances with cloud container storage pools using Microsoft Azure Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: hang cloud-container
Local fix
As the problem behavior occurs as a result of the cloud being unavailable, the underlying problem with the cloud service and/or network will need to be resolved to prevent further occurrences of this behavior. Until then, a restart of the server instance may be required to recover from this condition.
