APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After upgrading from MQ 7.0 to MQ 8.0, queue manager cluster
channels become stuck in initializing state.

The DISPLAY CHSTATUS command takes long time to complete.

Local fix

  • Resource contention is thought to be a contributing factor to
this problem occurring and so moving IBM MQ to a more capable
    environment may resolve the issue.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of MQ clustering who have a large number of transient
client connections may be affected by this issue. The issue may
be more likely to occur on machines which suffer resource
    contention.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A request to start a cluster channel could be delayed
indefinitely if a large number of channels are constantly ending
since IBM MQ would process these "end channel" events in
preference to processing start channel requests.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been modified to add an upper limit on the amount
of time that IBM MQ will spend processing "end channel" events
before processing requests to start new channels.
