Error description

  • Error Description: In IBM Spectrum Protect client the snapdiff
backup fails when specifying an UNC path in the stagingdirectory
     option.

    For example the following command:

    dsmc incr \\mytestmachine\vol_cifs1_migr$ -optfile=dsm.opt
    -stagingdir="\\ mytestmachine \c$\vol\udmfi4\" -node=my_node
    -snapdiff

will fail with the following error reported in dsmerror.log:

ANS1626E An unexpected error was encountered when processing a
TSM operation using a hardware or snapshot function.

Local fix

  • Local Fix :
Map the UNC path to a drive letter.

    For example:

    NET USE K: \\ mytestmachine\c$\vol\udmfi4\ /U: local\appbck *

and use the assigned letter in the value for the
    stagingdirectory option:

    dsmc incr \\ mytestmachine\vol_cifs1_migr$ -optfile=dsm.opt
    -stagingdir=K: -node=mynode -snapdiff

Problem conclusion

  • The problem when the client incorrectly parses the path
specified in the UNC format has been fixed so that it no longer
    occurs.
Note, that the problem also affects few client options
(dedupcachepath, diskcachelocation and others) connected with
    the path setting.

Temporary fix
