Error description
On Linux the NPROC value is not a process limit it is a Thread limit. The mqconfig script included with MQ for Linux displays number of processes related to NPROC instead of number of threads. The Knowledge center also does not correctly state that it is the number of threads: http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_7.1.0/com.ibm. mq.doc/zi00760_.htm http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_7.5.0/com.ibm. mq.ins.doc/q008550_.htm http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_8.0.0/com.ibm. mq.ins.doc/q008550_.ht http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_9.0.0/com.ibm. mq.ins.doc/q008550_.htm

Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Users using the mqconfig script and the section "Additional settings for IBM WebSphere MQ on Linux systems" in MQ Knowledge Center. Platforms affected: Linux on Power, Linux on S390, Linux on x86, Linux on x86-64, Linux on zSeries **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In Linux, each thread is implemented as a light-weight process (LWP) and each thread is counted as a process. Hence the resource limit "nproc" needs to be set based on the number of threads.
Problem conclusion
mqconfig script has been modified to display the number of processes based on number of threads running instead of number of processes. The MQ infocenter will be updated as shown below. http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_7.1.0/com.ibm. mq.doc/zi00760_.htm http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_7.5.0/com.ibm. mq.ins.doc/q008550_.htm http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_8.0.0/com.ibm. mq.ins.doc/q008550_.ht http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_9.0.0/com.ibm. mq.ins.doc/q008550_.htm A new bullet will be added to the section "The following assumptions are made in this algorithm:" * In Linux, each thread is implemented as a light-weight process (LWP) and each LWP is counted as one process against nproc. --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: Version Maintenance Level v7.5 7.5.0.8 v8.0 8.0.0.7 v9.0 CD 9.0.2 v9.0 LTS 9.0.0.1 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'WebSphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available information on its planned availability can be found in 'WebSphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309 ---------------------------------------------------------------
